While secretly exploring an old fort on the South Dakota prairie, three indian girls encounter a stranger. One of the girls playfully names him the chichi hoohoobogey man, after the Sioux, Hopi and white figures used to discipline children. On a forbidden outing th girls encounter the stranger again which starts to chase them, but sworn to secrecy they do not tell their parents. Strange things begin to happen at home, perhaps driven by spirits. This story is a reflection of rights and wrongs and respect for others.

A great read for grades 3 to 5.
